RTE reporter wins €60,000 damages from Garda Review
RTE's crime correspondent Paul Reynolds has been awarded €60,000 in damages at the Circuit Civil Court, which found that he was seriously defamed by an editorial in the Garda Review six years ago.
Mr Justice Matthew Deery found that the article printed in September 2001, written by the GRA's PJ Stone, depicted Mr Reynolds as a person who did not understand the requirements of due process or the presumption of innocence.
The action arises out of a report by Mr Reynolds on the detention of a Garda in Tenerife in connection with a rape.

The archipelago is one of several groups of islands in the North Atlantic Ocean which make up the Macaronesia, together with the Azores, Madeira, the Savage Islands, and Cape Verde.
GRA chief denies he libelled journalist
Garda Representative Association chief PJ Stone denied in court yesterday he had libelled RTE's crime correspondent Paul Reynolds in an article in the 'Garda Review' magazine.
Mr Stone, author of an editorial in the magazine which was critical of Mr Reynolds, claimed he had a right on behalf of his rank and file members to criticise RTE coverage of a garda's detention and questioning six years ago about an alleged rape in Tenerife.

RTE reporter takes libel action against garda magazine
RTE's crime editor Paul Reynolds is taking a libel action against the Garda Review magazine and the general secretary of the GRA arising out of an editorial written in September 2001.
The piece was written by PJ Stone following a report by the journalist about a 26-year-old Garda who was arrested while on holidays in Tenerife in connection with a rape.
The court heard that, in the article, Mr Stone said that he seriously doubted there would have been a camera outside the RTE offices if a person within the state broadcaster had been facing charges.
