Spanish The Main Visitors To Tenerife
As numbers of British visitors to Tenerife fall, the number of Scandinavian visitors rises, but Spaniards are the largest group of tourists.
Tenerife has a bit of an egg-n-chips image, but that's not entirely fair. The north of the island, especially, receives more German visitors than British ones, and is where the large towns and cities, with their Spanish populations are. A fall in the number of Britons visiting the island during September is causing some concern for the island's tourism industry, although the rise in the number of Scandinavian tourists compensates a little.
If you own a property in Tenerife that you let to tourists, it's worth marketing your property to a range of nationalities. While it's true that it's mainly British people who visit the south, the north of the island gets most of the rain in winter, so an apartment or villa in the south, which stays sunny, will attract a broad range of people throughout the winter.
The fact that the Spanish now constitute the largest group of visitors could lead to a growth in the number of Spanish restaurants, bars and other amenities on Tenerife, and will certainly aid the island in shedding its undeserved downmarket reputation.
