The Island Authority’s Forest Fire Brigade continues working to cool down and clean up the affected area

The fire which affected Tenerife last week is now out. Even so, the Island Authority’s Forest Fire Brigade is continuing to work to cool down and clean up the area burnt by the fire, which did not in any way affect the tourist areas.

The different public administrations on the Island, including the Island Authority or Cabildo itself, are now working on the recovery of the affected areas, something which will by favoured by the capacity for regeneration of the Canarian pine, which, as in fires that have taken place earlier, has managed to recover and become green again in just a short time.

All the roads on the island are again functioning normally, with the result that, for the last few days, the traffic has been able to pass freely through even the fire-affected areas.

The Cabildo is still maintaining the ban on traffic along the forest tracks and footpaths which give access to the fire-affected area so as to benefit the work of control and extinction of the fire by the professionals and, above all, so as to prevent possible risks to people. This limit on access includes the ten municipal districts affected by the forest fire and the ban will exclude only the local residents. Likewise, there is a ban on going to the public barbecue areas of La Tahona, Barranco Fuente Pedro, El Lagar, Las Hayas, Arenas Negras, San José de Los Llanos and Los Pedregales and the camps of Barranco de La Arena and El Lagar.

The other recreational areas are still open to the public: Chanajiga, Ramón Caminero, La Caldera, Las Lagunetillas de Santa Ursula, Hoya del Abade, La Vica, Las Calderetas, Lomo de La Jara, Las Raíces, Los Brezos, Los Frailes, El Contador, Las Lajas, El Llano de Los Viejos and La Quebrada, including the use of the fires for grilling meat. What is more, the Madre del Agua camp will also remain open.
